If you'd like to turn
off the auto-updaters
for most of your
software, you can
replace them with
a free tool from
Secunia called
PSI-Personal
Software Informer.
This tool will monitor
most, if not all of
your software for
updates. The newest
version will even
auto-update nearly
all of them. If it
can't, it will let you
know. What's the catch?
Well, they use it to
record non-personal,
aggregate information
about users' update
status among other
things. I find it to
be a reasonable
trade-off. I really
like this tool.
